Hi Alexander Boswell! “Stay consistent” is the most recycled writing advice. And I Agree. Such an approach served me well so far.

Publications can take time before they publish the post, and this has bugged me in the past.

I’ll publish a post and then submit the post to a publication, sometimes. I’ll do it for the sake of consistency, so I have at least one published artcticle on Medium every day.

Usually, I have a few stories in stock and I’m just waiting for a publication to pick one up and run with it.

Individual publications are better than others. Some will republish your article nicely, while others won’t. I don’t know what happens on their end, but certain publication can rescue your article after it was originally published.
